As long as I can remember, I have always loved books and reading. I began with Bobsey Twins, Nancy Drew, Beverly Cleary and then onto teenage " girl stories". In high school, I was lucky enough to be hired at the public library in my small New Jersey town. I think they felt that they might as well hire me as I was always there anyway and knew the library well! After two previous careers, I have my dream retirement job - at Island Books! Surrounded by books and people who love books is where I love to be.

I read this in a single sitting! In the wake of a catastrophic train fire in India, 3 characters become enmeshed in the obstacles surrounding their friend Jivan's being accused of this terrorist act because of a careless comment she made on Facebook!!
I couldn't put this down until I knew the conclusion! Excellent - short- good for book club discussion.
This book touched me deeply. It is the powerful portrait of Ghanaian immigrants, a mother and her son and daughter who have come to the United States to escape their country and begin a new life. It is the beautiful story of a brilliant young woman, who through her graduate study on mice in her lab, tries to unlock the secrets of the brain as she tries to understand depression and addiction as it ravages her beloved mother and talented brother.
This is my over-simplification of a story of faith, science, grief, depression, addiction and, most of all, love. One of my most recent favorites!
One of my favorites in 2019. A beautifully written adventure of 4 young orphans who've escaped from a miserable isolated boarding school for children from an Indian reservation in Minnesota and are on the run from their horrible school headmistress and the law as they travel by canoe to St Louis to find the only living relative of two of the boys . Beautifully written with unforgettable characters that kept me turning the pages until its shocking conclusion.
Don't be intimidated by the title. You do not need to be a student of Shakespeare's work to enjoy this book. Based on historical facts, this is really the story of William Shakespeare's wife and children. While their father was living in London creating his famous works, a plague hit the small village where his young son Hamnet and twin sister were living with their mother. This is their deeply moving story, not to be missed.
