I am one of the lucky people who likes to go to work. Being surrounded by books and book people makes me happy. My reading diet leans toward literary fiction and I have a particular fondness for well developed characters and beautiful writing. I dip into non-fiction sometimes too. I'll read anything by Erik Larson and Candice Millard, and I have an appetite for biography and memoirs especially with a food theme. I also enjoy travel writing - even though I'm not going anywhere soon.
This was delightful!
Captivating and heart breaking. Outstanding for writing and emotion.
I read this on the edge of my seat. And I loved all the Rhody references too.
This was fascinating. And really fun to read.
Bundle up for this one.
Eye opening. And, of course, the writing is amazing.
I sank right into this story of a 25 year old black woman who babysits for a wealthy 30 something year old white woman's prcocious and delightful 3 year old daughter. The small and subtle instances of racism and classism were eye opening. This was great to read and great to discuss.
Do you really want to read a book that takes place during the Plague? If it is this one, yes, you do. The writing is stunning, almost poetic, the story is captivating and the sense of place is palpable. This was my favorite book of 2020. Now in paperback.
This was one of my favorite books this year. A real delight.
Trust me. Just suspend belief and read it.
Great for book group discussion!
I would travel anywhere with this author.
Olive Kitteridge is back and I couldn't be happier to see her. I laughed, I cried, I cringed. This book will speak especially to women of a certain age. Brilliant.
